How Do You Ensure that You Retain Your Talent?

Britain’s economic growth rate could reach as high as 4% this year predict the economists, who are rapidly revising up their forecasts for 2014 according to the Sunday Times. A growing number of economists think The UK economy will grow by 3% or more for the year, with the rate possibly peaking at about 4% in the middle of the year before easing back.
With all this New Year cheer, it is little wonder that the latest Report on jobs by Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC)/KPMG indicates that the UK job market has reached a new high. The Report shows the strongest rise in permanent placements since March 2010. It also reveals that temporary billings increased at their fastest pace in over 15 years.
The Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) has also reported that the professional jobs market is in “vigorous health”, with permanent placements up 8.5% year-on-year, particularly across some of RSG’s key markets such as IT and Finance.
Both reports mirror RSG’s own internal figures indicating a very healthy state of the UK permanent professional job market and a significant upturn in temporary placements. And, as a recruitment business, we are witnessing increasing optimism and confidence amongst employers, which are willing to invest in their workforce.
But, it’s not all good news as the current rapidly improving UK labour market has inevitably led to declining availability of candidates for both permanent and temporary/contract roles. Even in December, ordinarily a slightly quieter month in recruitment terms, the demand for talent continued to increase strongly! Now the concern amongst employers is the availability of required talent and a mismatch between demand and supply.
Consequently, the battle for top talent has intensified with organisations feeling the pressure to review their talent attraction strategies and re-evaluate the way they source and engage with talent in order to secure and attract the best talent- so fundamental for organisations’ success.
RSG’s recent white paper “Effective Talent Management”, based on the round-table debate of Senior HR leaders from a variety of industry sectors, addresses this topical issue providing a rare sight into the secrets of successful talent management strategies.
