Financial Accountant

Sanderson are partnering with a Not for Profit Organisation to recruit for a Financial Accountant on an 11 Month Fixed Term contract.

The Financial Accountant will be based within the Research Finance and Projects Team, reporting to the Research Accounting and Reporting Manager. The role involves close liaison with Finance Office staff and colleagues in Research Support Services . Building relationships with external funding agencies, auditors, and other stakeholders is also required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor research and self-funded grants and claims, producing reports to provide up-to-date financial information on projects.
• Ensure project expenditures comply with Funding Bodies’ rules.
• Review and approve financial elements in research project applications/proposals.
• Provide comprehensive support and advice to the Research Community on financial requirements for assigned research projects.
• Prepare, review, and approve expenditure claims for research projects for submission to Funding Bodies.
• Ensure expenditures on projects are eligible and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Approve staff requests and core expense claims as required.
• Organise funding claims, invoices in a timely manner.
• Liaise with funders, external stakeholders regarding financial reports.
• Report and allocate research overhead earned on research projects.
• Gather and present information required for external audits, addressing queries during and after audits.
• Apply necessary financial and system controls within the Research Finance area.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory obligations and policies.
• Support the implementation of Finance transformation initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Professional Accounting Qualification, ACA, ACCA, CIMA.
• Degree Qualified
• Well-organized with the ability to coordinate and progress tasks independently.
• Flexible and effective team player, offering support to colleagues when required.
• Proficient in MS Excel and experienced with financial systems.
