Sanderson are partnering with a semi state body to recruit for an Executive Legal Counsel to complete an 18-month contract, this role is hybrid working with 2 days per week in the Dublin or Sligo office. The Executive Legal Counsel will be part of the Governance and Procurement Department within the Corporate Services Directorate, reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel.
The Executive Legal Counsel will lead on legal data exchange, data protection law, and regulatory requirements related to the implementation of the EPBD into national law. The primary focus of the role will be providing legal advice across departments on the implementation of the recast EPBD Directive into national law. The Executive Legal Counsel will also gain experience in other areas of law impacting the organization, including drafting legislation, data protection, freedom of information law and practice, regulatory and administrative law. The role involves monitoring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and data protection legislation. The successful candidate will have a varied workload, providing professional services and/or advice to operational teams on matters impacting programmes, particularly leading the data exchange implementation related to EPBD. Working with the Senior Legal Counsel and colleagues, the successful candidate will join a friendly and hard-working team committed to the high-quality delivery of legal requirements. Responsibilities
- The Executive Legal Counsel will lead on legal data exchange, data protection law, and regulatory requirements related to the implementation of the EPBD into national law.
- Provide legal advice across departments on the implementation of the recast EPBD Directive into national law.
- Gain experience in other areas of law impacting the organization, including drafting legislation, data protection, freedom of information law and practice, regulatory and administrative law.
- Monitor compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and data protection legislation.
- Provide professional services and/or advice to operational teams on matters impacting programmes, particularly leading the data exchange implementation related to EPBD.

Qualifications
- Called to the Bar in the State and entered on the Roll of Practising Barristers maintained by the LSRA or admitted and currently enrolled as a solicitor in the State.
- Minimum of 4 years' directly relevant post-qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister, or as in-house counsel.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the GDPR and privacy law. Experience advising on administrative and public law, regulatory law, commercial, or corporate law transactions.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex and technical legislation.
- Proven track record managing a diverse caseload and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent report writing and high standard of general written and oral communication skills.
