Environmental Health & Safety Lead
- In this key role you will support the EHS Manager in delivering all aspects of EHS in a food manufacturing site.
- Leading day-to-day management of EHS operations & manage two other individuals.
- You will ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, overseeing a proactive safety culture, & supporting CI to protect people, property, & the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the EHS department, including in absence of the EHS Manager
- Regularly review & update risk assessments, safe operating procedures, work instructions, & site's safety statement
- Monitor & analyse incident reports & safety metrics; ensure daily performance statistics are compiled & presented to the operations team
- Oversee prompt investigation & documentation of accidents, incidents, & near misses.
- Support managers in developing & implementing corrective actions
- Manage the internal audit program; conduct safety inspections, generate reports, & coordinate with department representatives to ensure timely close-out of findings
- Proactively identify opportunities for safety performance improvement & support the development of site-wide EHS initiatives in collaboration with the EHS Manager
- Support preparation & readiness for external regulatory & compliance audits
- Co-ordinate safety-related training, ensuring all mandatory & ongoing training needs are met on schedule.
- Maintain & update the training matrix
- Create & deliver EHS communications, including toolbox talks & safety alerts, to reinforce a strong safety culture across the site
- Manage site emergency preparedness programs, including fire & chemical safety, & workplace vehicle protocols
- Oversee contractor safety in partnership with the engineering dept; deliver contractor training, reviewing documentation, & conduct audits of contractor activities
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Essential Skills: -
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written - clearly explain safety procedures across all levels of the organisation
- Experience managing a team.
- Able to hit the ground running.
- Level 8 qualification in H&S or a related discipline.
- 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing or high-risk environment
- Manual Handling Instructor certification
- Train the Trainer qualification
- Occupational First Aid certification
- Good attention to detail, with excellent administrative, reporting, & literacy skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office & EHS-related software platforms
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently & as part of a cross-functional team
- Be able to undertake some travel.
