Implementation Program Director

Sanderson has been retained by UPMC Ireland to recruit an Implementation Program Director to lead the delivery of the MEDITECH Expanse Electronic Health Record (EHR) programme. This senior leadership role acts as the key link between programme ownership and delivery, ensuring strong alignment between clinical, operational and technical stakeholders. The Implementation Director will drive programme strategy, stakeholder engagement and provide clear communication to senior leadership.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent influencing, negotiation and risk management skills, supported by a strong track record in complex programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of the MEDITECH implementation across UPMC Ireland.
  • Establish and manage programme governance including sponsor roles, team structure and decision-making processes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between UPMC teams, IT and Clinical Informatics and implementation partners.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and oversight to project stream leads.

Project Planning and Execution

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans covering scope, schedules, milestones and outcomes.
  • Lead standardisation of clinical and operational processes that will be supported by the new EHR.
  • Drive change management and adoption among clinical and operational users.
  • Oversee deployment of all MEDITECH Expanse modules across four hospitals and two joint ventures.
  • Report, manage and escalate risks and issues to the Operations and Steering Committees.
  • Capture and document lessons learned at each project phase.

Portfolio and Resource Management

  • Manage competing resource demands across multiple initiatives.
  • Align resources through scheduling, recruitment or contracting as needed.
  • Provide project level and programme level reporting to governance groups.

Operational Management

  • Liaise with MEDITECH and other vendors on configuration, installation and issue resolution.
  • Manage contract performance and ongoing system changes.
  • Track and report programme variances to the Operations Committee.
  • Develop and implement a post implementation support model including maintenance, upgrades and end user support.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required. Healthcare experience is desirable.
  • Professional project management qualification such as PMP, Prince2 or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10 years project management experience and at least 5 years managing project portfolios.

Preferred

  • Experience leading major deployments. MEDITECH experience would be an advantage, but is not essential. Experience with EPIC, InterSystems or similar systems will also be useful.
  • MBA, MHA or equivalent qualification.
  • Clinical background or experience within healthcare delivery.
